It is the night before Diet Day Zero.

Despite being certain that this would be an evening filled with dread, I'm actually totally excited. I'm looking forward to eating better, feeling better, and most of all, getting to test and develop an entirely new repertoire of recipes in a field that I honestly don't have a lot of experience in.

It's true that a lot of my recipes can be easily adapted to the diet, and some don't need any adaptation at all. My biggest challenge will be potatoes and bread, mainly because so many of the breads advertised in the store as whole wheat or whole grain are still shit. There is an awful lot of label reading in my future.

But I found some with a not-too-bad fiber to sugars ratio, and some lean chicken breast lunchmeat, so I will have oatmeal with chopped dates tomorrow for breakfast, since I'm not putting sugar on it, and for lunch I will have a turkey sandwich and some lowfat cottage cheese with tomato slices, and for dinner I will have pan-seared chicken cut into strips and made into gyros. I found a low-fat feta that's only 80 calories for a quarter cup, and I really don't intend to eat a whole quarter-cup. That reminds me, I should probably get started on the tzatziki... I heard it's better the next day.

For snacks I have raisins, triscuits (a serving is only six crackers, but they're astonishingly satisfying), lowfat yogurt, and carrots, and I will also go to work well-armed with rice cakes and celery sticks, good to munch on but really impossible to actually binge on. You know, because they have so few calories.

I also bought a cantaloupe.

For Diet Eve dinner, I cooked an enormous shepherd's pie, which the boys devoured with every evidence of relish.

I also drank a dr pepper, because I sure am gonna miss it.

Wish me luck, everyone!
