Mar. 26th, 2001 02:07 amSo I'm sitting here with a bug bite on my hand and a beer on my desk, and I'm thinking about my job again.
I looked at next weeks schedule at store 41, and I'm scheduled for THREE DAYS. That's twenty four hours, folks, at just over $7.00 an hour. How in GOD'S name am I going to pay rent with this? That's PART TIME HOURS, people.
God this beer is great. Anyway, I've been thinking a lot about my job. In all honesty, I'm all confilcty about it. I want to do the best by my employers that I can, and that would mean going in to store 41 and being an assistant manager and helping get the place back on track. I also want to do what's best for me... I want to be happy, like I was at store 168. However, the work ethic urge had almost taken over, and I was about to agree to stay at store 41. But seeing that schedule made me think some more. So I'm gonna make a couple lists.
Reasons To Stay At Store 41.
1. Promotion. James tells me that I will get my promotion only if I transfer to store 41. That means a pay raise of a few cents, and a share in store bonuses. The extra money would be a big help.
2. Challenege. The store would be a challenge to get back in working order. Working with the management on this one would hold my interest, and seeing the store change would be very satisfying.
3. It would satisfy the urge to please my bosses. I DO want to do my best by them.
4. It would make me look good, and possibly lead to higher and higher promotions.
Reasons To Not Stay At Store 41.
1. I'm unhappy. The only reason I stayed with this company at this wage for so long was because I enjoyed my job. At 168, I had a store that I was proud of, a crew that I liked (apart from Frank) and a boss who was competent. At 41, I have a boss who can hardly get up and get in to work on time, a store that nauseates me, and a crew that is, except for Ryan, new.
2. Job satisfaction. At 168, Rodney involved me in the store. At 41, Diane seems to lack the ability to get to work on time, let alone tell me what's going on with the store. I'm treated like just another employee, whereas I was told that I would be going in to help put the store back together. I can't DO that with an incompetent, non-communicative manager.
3. Ryan. Ryan is my bud, and an assistant manager in training at 41. If I get to be AM at store 41, then what happens to Ryan? Does he lose that promotion? Does he get shuffled to another store like I was? Is he going to get fired? More importantly, do they intend to actually promote me at all?
4. Hours. Christ! Twenty-four hours in a week? I canNOT live on that.
So really. All input is appreciated. What should I do?
