Jun. 1st, 2008 11:32 pmAs a treat, in my enormous sack of mainly plant-based food that I prepare for myself each weekday, is a sandwich bag of strawberries and cherries. A delicious break from my habitual piece of citrus, strawberries contain an amazing amount of vitamin C, and are a good source of manganese, dietary fiber and (this surprised me) iodine. Which is good as I use non-iodized salt almost exclusively. The cherries throw in a few more grams of fiber and some potassium, but are mainly sugar and are there because they are so tasty. I forget every winter how much I loooove cherries. And strawberries.
Which is funny, because generally I'm not much of a fruit person.
