... or "Why it is a Good Idea for Retailers to Give Allison Gift Certificates."

I won a $25.00 gift card for Blockbusters at a work party on Monday.

Now, I never go to Blockbusters, I never rent at Blockbusters and I certainly never shop at Blockbusters.

Tonight, I went to Blockbusters looking to spend my gift certificate, planning to purchase a couple movies and maybe one for Mike.

I spent $64.99, and here's what I got:

Hot Fuzz $10.00
Black Snake Moan $10.00
Breach $10.00
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire $10.00
Sopranos Season 5 $29.99
Harry Potter Prisoner of Azkhaban 16.99

subtotal 82.98
plus tax of 6.97 = 89.95
-25.00 gift card = 64.95

At Normal Retail (prices from Best Buy, which are usually pretty good anyway)
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire $19.99
Harry Potter Prisoner of Yadda Yadda $9.99
Hot Fuzz $19.99
Black Snake Moan $19.99
Breach $14.99
Sopranos Season 5 $54.99

subtotal 139.94
plus tax of 11.75 = 151.69
-25.00 gift card = 126.69

Which means that I paid almost half (and by almost half I mean around 51%) what I would've for new movies, and Blockbusters previously viewed movies are quality guaranteed, whatever that means.

tonight = win!
