It is the night before Diet Day Zero.
Despite being certain that this would be an evening filled with dread, I'm actually totally excited. I'm looking forward to eating better, feeling better, and most of all, getting to test and develop an entirely new repertoire of recipes in a field that I honestly don't have a lot of experience in.
It's true that a lot of my recipes can be easily adapted to the diet, and some don't need any adaptation at all. My biggest challenge will be potatoes and bread, mainly because so many of the breads advertised in the store as whole wheat or whole grain are still shit. There is an awful lot of label reading in my future.
But I found some with a not-too-bad fiber to sugars ratio, and some lean chicken breast lunchmeat, so I will have oatmeal with chopped dates tomorrow for breakfast, since I'm not putting sugar on it, and for lunch I will have a turkey sandwich and some lowfat cottage cheese with tomato slices, and for dinner I will have pan-seared chicken cut into strips and made into gyros. I found a low-fat feta that's only 80 calories for a quarter cup, and I really don't intend to eat a whole quarter-cup. That reminds me, I should probably get started on the tzatziki... I heard it's better the next day.
For snacks I have raisins, triscuits (a serving is only six crackers, but they're astonishingly satisfying), lowfat yogurt, and carrots, and I will also go to work well-armed with rice cakes and celery sticks, good to munch on but really impossible to actually binge on. You know, because they have so few calories.
I also bought a cantaloupe.
For Diet Eve dinner, I cooked an enormous shepherd's pie, which the boys devoured with every evidence of relish.
I also drank a dr pepper, because I sure am gonna miss it.
Wish me luck, everyone!

Date: 2007-08-16 02:58 pm (UTC)i'm a wierdo, i actually rather like rice cakes.
something you might try are wasa crackers. tons o' fiber, very low cal, fairly hard crackers. there is one that i've crunched up and put at the bottom of sf pudding as a 'crust'.
and hummas. mmmm. 2 tbsp sure make a serving or two of veggies seem alot closer to heaven than expected.

Date: 2007-08-16 06:02 pm (UTC)I am not sure if you are doing a calorie count program or a glycemic one.
This is a site that helps me often at least to figure out serving sizes with weight/ounces.
www.calorie-count.com
Some of my favorite, but full of not usefull/processed crap (I only have so many things i can eat)
But Kashi TLC they have these big bruchetta type party crackers and the honey seasame has 2grms fiber per serving
All-bran crackers garlic herb my absoulute favorite, they still taste like crackers 5grms fiber
Fiber one chewy bars, the thing i eat when i need something sweet because honestly it is hard to find tasty baked goods that have any fiber has 9grms of dietary fiber I pull those apart a little at a time or pick out the chocolate chips while i eat.
Guiltless gourmet baked corn chips(have not found any other with fiber)2grms
Kraft red-fat sharp cheddar
Brummel and brown with yougurt veg.oil spread they onlt kind that still tasted like margarine
This list could go on forever,I want to wish you a good job comment for starting something i know is challenging.
Also cookinglight.com
has alot of great recipes.
Best of luck allie,It's a great day to start something new and good for you.

Date: 2007-08-17 03:11 am (UTC)Now if you have a recommendations for a cold breakfast cereal, that would be perfect. I spent twenty minutes examining labels in the cereal aisle before I got frustrated and left.

Date: 2007-08-17 06:59 am (UTC)When i would though it was and when i need "Cereal" it is a better choice then plundering the girls marshmallow mateys!!
I eat All-Bran with vanilla yogurt bites
serving size is 1-1/4 cups 190 calories/3grms fat/10grms dietary fiber.
I hardly eat it because for me cereal goes in to quick and so i have small bowls and salad plates instead of dinner plates to eat my food on.But for you since you work in the mornings i would suggest trying that cereal.Just remember the first few weeks are the hardest if you can make it through those the rest will fall into place.
