After a burrito on a wheat tortilla with lowfat yogurt instead of sour cream, black beans, leftover sirloin and reduced fat cheddar, that leaves me at 1677 calories for the day, with enough left over for a few pieces of chocolate and a handful of mixed nuts.

I wish I knew for sure, though. It seems like far too little for the amount I've eaten. I checked and double checked, though, and this is the largest figure I could come up with. I just wish my body had a fuel gauge.

The boys brought home two pizzas from little caesars today. They do this all the time, throwing temptation right in my path. They don't do it intentionally. It's just kinda how they are.

Still feelin' down. A woman at work today, while I was discussing my diet with some coworkers, jumped in and said that the average woman should eat 1200 calories a day, and that I was eating way too much. I tried to explain to her all the research I'd done, and referred her to the usda website that specifically contradicts what she's saying... all politely, of course. But the other women in the breakroom immediately took up her chant. "yeah, I read that somewhere..." and "that sounds reasonable" surrounded me, and I found it troubling.

Luis, a young man about 5'3" and thin as a whip said, "I should be eating 2000 calories a day, a woman should eat much less than that."

I went home dejected. I know they're wrong, but still... it sucks. A lot.

They are not only wrong, but they are being jerks about it, touting what they think is right and sticking to it instead of agreeing to double check -- all for the sake of looking like better people.

I haven't found a human being that doesn't do that at least once, if not constantly. I'm, frankly, tired of the behavior.

I think what enrages me most about it is the underlying sexist attitude toward nutrition. It's not really even that they're being sexist... they're touting a sexist view buried under layer after layer of other topics. It's just so fucking STUPID.

Everyone's diet is different. Every single person. Everyone's metabolism is different and their wieght and all of it. They're wrong. Keep doing what you're doing.

*hugs*

I don't know how much you weigh, but if you were eating 1200 calories a day, your body would go into storage mode. 1200 calories is a guideline for people who want to lose weight. People who weigh between 150 and 180 pounds.

Tell them your sister, whom, you might add, is a practicing doctor specializing in women's health, told you to eat no less than 1500, and then inform them they should insert that into their respective pipes and smoke it.

Also, the average woman who is not trying to lose weight, and who weight about 150, should be eating 1800 pounds. They're retarded, and probably highly deluded about how much they intake in a day if they think they're eating anywhere near that.

I know. I know! But so much of this is really guesswork that there's this insidious little voice in my head that says "maybe they're right."

And what my sister actually told me was not to drop below 1800 calories a day. Of course at my weight I'm burning close to 3000 a day, so I should still lose weight at quite a clip at 1800.

"my mom and i use fitday.com to keep track of our daily activities and calorie intake."

Translate: "quit posting this boring shit on my friendslist."

I don't care for the corn ones as much... they don't have gluten and become crumbly in the mouth, a sensation that I associate with dirt and find unpleasant.

I have some whole wheat ones I like, and I've heard the corn ones are better if you make them yourself. You should have no trouble procuring masa in california... give it a try.

Your coworkers read too much Cosmo, perhaps.

I think that they're jealous because they aren't doing anything to take care of their own weight issues.

Ding ding ding!

Whatever happens, sounds like you're doing it right. Your body is telling you that it is happy with your new outlook on health, so bully for you.

A starving woman should eat 1200 calories a day but people on starvation diets have this way of throwing twenty pounds back on as soon as they come off of them. Just the bodies way of saying, "HOLY SHIT!!! PREPARE FOR THE NEXT WINTER!!!"

I think part of the problem is that they're considering people like Calista Flockheart, Kate Moss, Nicole Richie, and Paris Hilton women, as opposed to skeletons wearing an epidermis.

Incidentally, when I googled 1200 calorie diets the second site that popped up was advertising a diet combined with the use of a mood stabilizing diet drug. The fourth led me to this, and several of the other pages that I looked at implied that 1200 calorie diets should be done only under medical supervision.

In other words, they're allowing mainstream media to talk out their collective asses.
