I started out 2007 frantically unhappy, and ended it relatively balanced and well-organized. I've seen a lot of people go through some incredible trials this year, and it's been heartbreaking. For that alone, 2007 can go fuck itself. I've been through a bit of hard work, but have come out the other end relatively unscathed and quite a bit improved.
So, as is traditional, we say fuck you to 2007. Fuck you, 2007. We fucking beat you. You're gone and we are still here, alive and kicking.
And now, we will ring in the beginning of a whole new year with a lovely day off work and, for many of us, wicked hangovers. Many of us will spend time with family of one stripe or another.
And now, I leave you all with a small excerpt from a song I used to love, but until recently had forgotten about.
"Be exactly who you want to be, do what you want to do
I am he and she is she but you're the only you
No one else has got your eyes, can see the things you see
It's up to you to change your life and my life's up to me
The problems that you suffer from are problems that you make
The shit we have to climb through is the shit we choose to take
If you don't like the life you live, change it now it's yours"
-Crass, "Big A Little A"
There's something very empowering to me about taking ownership of my problems. Once I realize that they originate with me, they are no longer huge and alien and impossible. I have a lot of problems, and I hope in the coming year and all that follow that I will try to own up and take more responsibility for the course of my life.
Goodnight, all. Sleep well.
