I was walking down Silverton this morning, heading out to catch the bus north after work, and listening to the birds sing their morning songs. I caught the bus and headed north, and got off at the stop just outside the Portland Road store. A mist was floating in from the east, covering and softening everything. It didn't surprise me a bit... it had been so humid lately that I half expected it. I saw a dead salamander in the middle of the sidewalk... I didn't see any cuts or bruises on it... and it was positioned as though it had died mid-step. Is that something that often happens to salamanders? Are they such stupid and fragile creatures that they can just wander from the woods into the concrete world of man and die of surprise?

Oh, well. He's crow's bait, now.
